SAWIOT Launches South West’s First Esports Hub with Inspiring Industry Mixer
Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology (SAWIOT) took a major step forward in shaping the future of digital careers this morning, hosting its very first Esports Mixer — a vibrant and inspiring event designed to connect leading figures from the gaming and technology sectors.
Spearheaded by SAWIOT’s very own Esports Lecturer, Chris Baxter, alongside his passionate students, the event marked the official launch of the South West’s first dedicated Esports Hub. The initiative is part of a wider commitment to champion Esports as a viable and exciting career pathway for young people across the region.
Held on campus, the Esports Mixer offered students the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals, explore career possibilities, and gain invaluable insights into the world of competitive gaming, content creation, and event management.
Guest speakers included some of the biggest names in the UK Esports and tech community:
“This event is just the beginning,” said Chris Baxter. “We’re building something special here at SAWIOT—not just a physical space, but a community where young people can grow, compete, and thrive in one of the fastest-growing industries in the world.”
With high-energy discussions, networking opportunities, and live demonstrations, the Mixer underscored the increasing demand for Esports talent and the vital role education can play in preparing the next generation of digital leaders.
As the South West sets its sights on becoming a UK hotspot for Esports innovation, SAWIOT’s new hub is poised to be at the centre of it all — putting our region firmly on the Esports map.
