Technician Scientist Apprenticeship Level 5

This apprenticeship prepares learners for hands-on scientific roles in industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemicals, and analytical services. Technician Scientists carry out laboratory investigations and experiments using both routine and advanced techniques. They work under regulated conditions, ensuring safety and quality in scientific processes.

Apprentices will:

Conduct experiments and investigations using established lab methods

Analyse and interpret scientific data

Maintain accurate records and use data systems

Work collaboratively in scientific teams

Apply project management skills to support research and development

Communicate scientific findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

Typical job roles include: Laboratory Analyst, Assistant Scientist, Microbiology Support Scientist, Process Development Technologist, and more.

This programme is ideal for those looking to build a career in science through practical experience and structured learning.

Entry requirements

Typically candidates will have grade C/4 or above in at least five GCSE’s, including English, maths and a science subject and hold relevant level 3 qualifications providing the appropriate number of UCAS points for entry to a level 5 HE programme. Other relevant or prior experience may also be considered as an alternative.
