Mechanical Engineering for England HND HTQ (3 Years)

Mechanical Engineering for England HND HTQ (3 Years)

Our three-year, part-time Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering is designed for individuals who wish to deepen their mechanical engineering expertise while continuing employment or other commitments. Delivered one day per week, this flexible structure empowers students to integrate their academic learning with workplace practice, applying techniques and insights directly in real engineering settings.

This programme aims to produce professional, self-reflective graduates who can adapt to the evolving demands of the engineering sector. Students will develop strong technical knowledge, creative problem-solving abilities, and leadership confidence to work across mechanical systems, manufacturing, thermofluids and digital modelling. The course balances employability skills with rigorous academic content, preparing students to tackle complex challenges in mechanical engineering, engage with advanced digital and software-driven processes, and navigate the global, cross-cultural engineering environment. Students will also build awareness of diversity, values, and collaborative working essential for modern engineering practice.

By the end of study, graduates will be prepared to take on roles in design, analysis, maintenance, or project engineering, or to progress to a top-up degree (BEng/BA Hons) in mechanical or general engineering.

This learning is further supported by the real-life experiences of lectures that allow difficult concepts to be easily understood. The Program is further supported by guest speakers and educational visits.

Assessment methods

For internally assessed units, assessment takes the form of an assignment carried out?after the unit (or part of the unit if several assignments are used) has been delivered.?An assignment may take a variety of forms, including practical and written. It is a?distinct activity completed independently by students (alone or in a team). It is?separate from teaching, practice, exploration, and other activities that students?complete with direction from tutors.
