What Does This Role Involve?

Assistant Practitioners work across a variety of settings – hospitals, clinics, GP surgeries, and even in the community. You might visit people in their homes or support those in residential care. Your work could span areas such as:

• Diagnostic services

• Rehabilitation and orthopaedics

• Oncology and end-of-life care

• Mental health and learning disabilities

This is a dynamic role that often crosses traditional boundaries, adapting to local population needs.

Your Purpose

You’ll assist registered healthcare professionals in assessing patients, coordinating care, and carrying out clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic activities. Every day is different, and your work will have a direct impact on people’s lives.

Examples of what you might do:

• In rehabilitation, you could fit and review equipment prescribed by physiotherapists or occupational therapists.

• In radiography, you might take diagnostic images to help diagnose or treat illnesses.

• In community mental health, you’ll support adults or young people with mental health needs.

Your Responsibilities

• Promote safety, manage risk, and contribute to service improvements through audits and research

You’ll be accountable for your actions and know when to escalate to a registered practitioner if something is beyond your competence.
